SOFIA (Bulgaria), November 20 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria and Romania recorded the EU’s highest number of road fatalities relative to the countries’ respective population in 2016, data from the EU's statistical office showed.
In Bulgaria road traffic victims numbered 99 per million inhabitants in 2016, Eurostat said in a statement on Sunday.
Romania followed with 97 road fatalities per million inhabitants last year.
All EU member states in Southeast Europe had higher road fatalty rates than the EU average of 50 road traffic victims per million inhabitants.
In Croatia this share was 73 victims per million people, while in Slovenia it was just over 60 road fatalities per million inhabitants.
