July 10 (SeeNews) - Moldova-founded, Bucharest-listed wine producer Purcari Wineries [BVB:WINE] said that it has installed a 200 kW photovoltaic (PV) system at its winery in the Moldovan village of Bardar.
The system became operational on July 3 and covers a total surface of 1,100 sq m atop the winery's storage warehouse, Purcari said in a filing with the Bucharest Stock Exchange on Friday.
The company expects its new solar photovoltaic power plant to generate around 230,000 kWh per year. Purcari Wineries intends to further invest in increasing its production capacity of renewable energy until renewables cover at least 80% of the group's electricity demands.
Last month, Purcari said that it has invested in the expansion of the capacity of the solar power plants it owns at its business premises.
Founded in 1827, Purcari Wineries is one of the largest wine and brandy production groups in Central and Eastern Europe. It manages over 1,450 hectares of vineyards and operates seven production platforms in Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria. Purcari is the leader in the premium wine segment in Romania, with a share of 30%, and the largest wine exporter from Moldova, delivering its output to over 40 countries.
Purcari Wineries' shares traded 0.36% higher at 11.14 lei ($2.46/2.24 euro) by 1008 CET on July 10 on the Bucharest bourse.
