May 11 (SeeNews) - Irish fashion retailer Primark said on Thursday that it is opening on June 20 a store in the AFI Cotroceni shopping mall in the Romanian capital Bucharest, its second in the country.
The 3,200 sq m store will create over 250 jobs and follows the company’s expansion plans in Central and Eastern Europe, alongside the key markets of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia and soon to be launched Slovakia, Primark said in a press release.
“We are delighted to add a new Primark store to Bucharest’s fashion map. This is a highly anticipated opening following the fantastic response we have had from customers to our first opening six months ago,” Maciej Podwojski, head of Primark CEE, said.
The AFI Cotroceni store follows a 10 million euro ($10.9 million) investment in Primark’s first store in Romania, located in the ParkLake Shopping Centre in Bucharest and opened in December 2022. Primark first announced its entry into the Romanian market in January 2022.
Founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand, Primark employs more than 70,000 people across 15 countries in Europe and the US. The company is aiming to reach 530 stores by the end of 2026, including locations in upcoming new markets of Slovakia and Hungary.
