December 12 (SeeNews) - Georgia's prime minister Irakli Gharibashvili led the opening ceremony of a 400-kV high voltage power transmission line between Turkey and Georgia and a substation in southern Georgia's province of Akhaltsikhe, the prime minister's office said.
The Akhaltsikhe-Borcka transmission line and the back-to-back station will enable Georgia to transmit power to Turkey and European countries, the Georgian prime minister's office said in a statement on Wednesday.
The line will be capable of transmitting 700 megawatts (MW) of power initially. The transmission capacity can be increased to 1,100 MW, Turkey's energy minister Taner Yildiz said during the ceremony, according to a statement on the website of Turkey's ruling party AK Parti on Wednesday.
The substation and the line are part of the Black Sea power transmission network project carried out by Georgia's state-owned electricity transmission company Georgian State Electrosystem JSC and its affiliate Energotrans.
