August 25 (SeeNews) - Serbia's state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has incurred costs worth 566 million dinars ($5.5 million/4.7 million euro) from electricity theft in the first six months of 2017, local media reported on Friday.
The company discovered power theft committed by 3,256 consumers in the country in the first six months of the year, Serbian daily Politika quoted company sources as saying.
The reduction of the cases of theft of electricity through modernisation of the equipment for control of electric meters is among the priorities of the company, EPS said.
EPS said its electricity output increased by 2.5% on the year to 36.5 billion kWh in 2016.
