December 11 (SeeNews) - Portugal's flag carrier TAP said it has decided to stop its flights from Lisbon to Romania's Bucharest due to lack of profitability.
The airline will no longer operate direct Lisbon-Bucharest flights starting January 27, 2019, it said in a statement on Monday.
People who have bought tickets for later flights will be redirected to other flights or could get their money back.
"TAP regrets the discontinuation of operation on this route, which was the second attempt to operate on the Romanian market. The resumed operation once again proved its low profitability, which would not justify continuing the flights on the Lisbon-Bucharest route," TAP said.
This is the second time TAP leaves Romania.
In July 2017, the company resumed flights on Bucharest-Lisbon route after cancelling the service in March 2016, also in an attempt to improve profitability.
TAP is headquartered at Lisbon Airport which also serves as its hub. It is a member of the Star Alliance and operates on average 2,500 flights a week to 87 destinations in 34 countries worldwide with a fleet of 92 aircraft.
