April 26 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borissov said that the country will receive within a month a roadmap for joining the eurozone, local media reported on Thursday.
"I am optimistic that in one year we could congratulate ourselves with success on the issue of Bulgaria joining the eurozone," Borissov said in a video file posted on the website of TV broadcaster Nova.
Bulgaria has met the formal criteria for entering the ERM II, the system set up by the EU for the preparation of member states for the introduction of the euro, Borissov said following his meeting with European Commission vice president Valdis Dombrovski, as quoted by the government press office.
During their meeting Borissov and Dombrovskis discussed Bulgaria's macroeconomic indicators, as Dombrovskis voiced his satisfaction with Bulgaria's declining government debt which stood at 25.4% at the end of 2017, the government added.
Also on Thursday, Dombrovskis told the Bulgarian National Television that the European Commission is working to set the exact timeframe for Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone waiting room. "It's a matter of months, not years," he commented.
Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007.
