January 17 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Turkey's Antalya Airport more than doubled on an annual comparison basis last year, reaching 21.9 million, the operator of the airport, Germany's Fraport Group, said on Monday.
Compared with the pre-pandemic year 2019, however, Antalya Airport's passenger numbers were 38% lower last year, Fraport Group said in a statement.
Aircraft movements more than doubled year-on-year in 2021, to 133,800. Data about cargo handled in the review period was not provided.
Tourist traffic at Antalya Airport made a particularly positive and strong impact during the summer months, Fraport Group noted.
All of the group's international locations recorded varying growth rates compared to the weak 2020 reference year, with the exception of Xi’an in China. "Traffic recovered much faster at airports focused on tourism traffic, especially during the summer season," the group said.
In Southeast Europe, Fraport operates airports in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana and the Bulgarian Black Sea cities of Varna and Burgas.
