September 11 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Timisoara international airport, in western Romania, rose 12.2% year-on-year to 225,120 in the first six months of 2019, the airport operator said.
The Timisoara-Bucharest route registered an increase of 14.5% in passenger numbers to 219,466 in the first half of 2019 compared to last year, Timisoara Traian Vuia Airport said in a press release on Tuesday.
Thus, Timisoara-Bucharest was the busiest domestic route in Romania, the airport operator said.
The number of passengers on the Timisoara-Iasi rose 8.9% year-on-year to 6,101 in the first half of 2019.
"Through our management plan we aim to be able to maintain a constant, stable and economically efficient number of passengers with a healthy growth, in accordance with the socioeconomic realities of the passenger catchment area in the western Region of Romania," Timisoara airport director, Daniel Idolu, said.
The number of passengers transported by air to and from Bucharest puts Timisoara airport in second place in the national ranking, after Henri Coanda International Airport in Otopeni which serves Bucharest. Cluj-Napoca Avram Iancu International Airport ranks third.
