September 14 (SeeNews) - Combined passenger numbers at Bulgaria's two coastal airports of Varna and Burgas added 11.6% year-on-year to 836,229 in August, operator Germany's Fraport Group said.
The passenger volume at Varna Airport jumped by 18.1% on the year to 306,535 last month, while traffic numbers at Burgas Airport were boosted by 8.2% to 529,694, Fraport Group, majority owner of the airports operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, said in a monthly traffic report on Wednesday.
In the first eight months of 2023, combined traffic at the two coastal airports amounted to roughly 2.86 million passengers, representing an annual rise of 22.1%. Of those, Varna Airport contributed some 1.37 million passengers.
Cargo handled at the Varna and Burgas airports fell by 56% on the year to 91 tonnes in August. For the first eight months of 2023, cargo was 70.6% less than a year earlier, at 1,593 tonnes.
Aircraft take-offs and landings at both airports went up by an annual 8.1% to 5,406 in August and by 17.1% to 20,441 in the eight months overall.
