SOFIA (Bulgaria), March 10 (SeeNews) – Combined passenger numbers at the Bulgarian coastal airports of Varna and Burgas rose 1.2% year-on-year to 76,940 in the first two months of of 2017, Germany’s Fraport Group, which operates the airports, said on Friday.
In February alone, combined passenger numbers rose 7.9% year-on-year to 37,614, the Fraport Group said in a statement on its website.
Passenger traffic at Burgas airport decreased by an annual 14.4% to 8,342 in February, while passengers at Varna airport increased by 16.6% to 29,272.
Combined aircraft movements at the two airports declined by 2.9% on the year to 1,554 in the first two months of 2017.
In February alone, landings and take-offs declined by 1.2% on the year to 554. At Burgas airport, aircraft take-offs and landings decreased by 25.5% to 164 in February, while at Varna airport, aircraft movements increased 14.4% to 390.
The volume of cargo handled at the two airports in the January-February period rose 15.3% year-on-year to 2.6 tonnes.
In 2006, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, a 60/40 joint venture of Fraport and Bulgarian company BM Star, won a 35-year concession to manage the two airports.
