SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), September 20 (SeeNews) – Passenger numbers at Bosnia's Tuzla International Airport increased to 356,852 in the first eight months of 2017, up sharply from 205,304 in the same period last year, according to data from the airport operator.
In August alone, passenger traffic jumped 105% on the year and 1% on the month, reaching 63,788, figures posted on the website of Tuzla airport show.
Over the past six years, up until end-August 2017, Tuzla airport welcomed 1,145,709 passengers in total. In 2016, passenger traffic increased 20% to 311,398.
Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said in March it has deployed a second aircraft at its base in Tuzla to operate five new routes.
The new aircraft will allow Wizz Air to increase the number of weekly flights on the existing routes from Tuzla to Eindhoven, Gothenburg, Malmo and Frankfurt Hahn, it said at the time.
For 2017, Wizz Air has announced the launch of six new routes from Bosnia to four countries. The company handled some 310,000 passengers from and to Tuzla in 2016, supporting around 230 local jobs.
