SOFIA (Bulgaria), July 10 (SeeNews) – More than 80% of Romanians and Serbs are willing to pay cashless in a bid to support efforts by the local governments in combating the shadow economy, a recent poll commissioned by Mastercard showed.
In addition, 93% of Romanians and Serbs are willing to take their fiscal receipts to combat merchants hiding their actual revenues, results from the poll, made available to SeeNews on Monday, showed.
Bulgarians showed the highest willingness to take fiscal receipts – 94% - while a further 79% claimed they are willing to pay cashless.
The opinion poll covers ten countries from Central and Eastern Europe - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Romania. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the poll was carried out as an omnibus study on a group of 1,000 users. In each of the other nine countries, the survey was carried out through an Internet panel on a representative sample group in terms of age, gender and region of 800 users.
The existence of shadow economy was acknowledged by 95% of Serbs, 93% of Bulgarians and 91% of Croats.
Only 66% of Romanians confirmed they are aware of its existence.
Some 93% of respondents from Bosnia and Herzegovina urged their government to fight the shadow economy, versus 92% of Bulgarians and Romanians.
