February 18 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, a unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said its revenues increased by 4% year-on-year in 2021, reaching 1.235 billion euro ($1.404 billion) due to a rise in equipment sales.
In the fourth quarter alone, Orange Romania's revenues rose by an annual 3% to 430 million euro, Orange Romania said in a press release on Thursday.
At end-December, Orange Romania offered mobile services to 10.6 million customers, fixed broadband services to 1.4 million customers, and cable and satellite television services to 1.5 million customers.
Orange's 4G network coverage reached 98.31% of the population at the end of December. In addition, Orange Romania has so far connected 17 cities to its 5G network.
"Although this was the second year marked by the uncertainties brought by the health crisis, our results are positive and show that we have a solid foundation, which can cope with unpredictable situations," Orange Romania CEO Liudmila Climoc said.
In October, Orange Romania completed the acquisition of a 54% stake in fixed-line operator Telekom Romania Communications (TKR).
Romania’s market of just over 19 million people is served by five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and insolvent 2K Telecom.
At group level, Orange posted revenues of 42.5 billion euro in 2021, up 0.8% year-on-year.
