April 26 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, a unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said on Thursday its revenues rose by an annual 11.1% to 270 million euro ($330 million) in the first quarter, due to higher mobile data usage and mobile device sales.
Orange Romania had 10.449 million customers at the end of March, down from 10.623 million at the end of 2017.
Mobile Internet traffic surged by 85% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2018 supported by an increase in smartphone sales and by investments in 4G and 4G+ networks, Orange Romania said in an interim financial report.
TV services had 418,000 customers at end-March 2018, a 22% increase year on year. Fixed broadband services had 210,000 customers at the end of the first quarter.
"We continued to accelerate the digitization process in the first quarter of 2018, backed by increased mobile data consumption and connected products for both residential and business environments," Orange Romania CEO, Liudmila Climoc, said.
Orange Romania revenues increased by 8% last year relative to 2016, reaching 1.07 billion euro due to increased use of mobile data and higher sales of fixed-mobile packages and mobile equipment.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million people is served by five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and insolvent 2K Telecom.
At group level, Orange posted revenues of 10.08 billion euro in the first quarter of 2018, up 2% on the year.
