October 25 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, the local unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said on Tuesday its revenues increased by 3.3% on the year to 251.1 million euro ($273.3 million) in the third quarter of 2016 due to strong performance in mobile services.
Orange Romania had 10.175 million clients at the end of September, 300,000 more than in the previous quarter, but slightly down from 10.177 million at the end of 2015.
Mobile Internet traffic doubled compared to the same period of last year, as 4G terminals traffic grew four times, Orange Romania said in a statement. The operator's 4G network covers 74% of Romania's population.
TV services had 315,000 customers at the end of September, up 26.3% on the year.
In the last three months, Orange opened six smart stores, reaching a total of 11 such stores in Romania.
"Performance in the third quarter reflects steady growth in the development of mobile data usage, supported by increased appetite for connectivity to digital services, smartphones and wearable products," Orange Romania CEO Liudmila Climoc said.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million is served by five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and 2K Telecom.
