October 31 (SeeNews) - The Romanian unit of France Telecom's Orange has launched fixed-lined telephony under a service integrating fixed-line telephone services and broadband Internet connection, it said on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Romania's telecoms regulator ANRC allocated one million fixed-line telephone numbers to Orange.
Orange’s main competitor on the Romanian fixed-line telephony market is Romtelecom, which had 3.4 million subscriber lines at the end of last year. A total of 81 operators provided fixed-line telephone services in the country of some 21.6 million at the end of 2006, ANRC data showed.
Orange Romania is the largest Romanian mobile operator with 9.31 million customers at the end of September, up 24.2% on the year. It reported a 24.1% year-on-year rise in its third-quarter revenue to 326 million euro ($470.5 million).
