July 29 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, the local unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said on Tuesday it posted revenues of 448.3 million euro ($602.2 million) in the first half of 2014, up by 4.5% on the year excluding the impact of a reduction in interconnection tariffs.
Last year, Orange Romania reported first-half revenues of 449 million euro.
The operator had 10.384 million clients at end-June, up by some 184,000 from a year earlier, Orange Romania said in a statement.
Mobile Internet traffic surged by more than 50% on the year in the second quarter, as tablet sales jumped three times and half of the phones sold were smartphones, it added.
The operator also said its 4G network is the most extended one in Romania, covering 76% of the urban population, with speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million is served by a total of five mobile operators - Cosmote Romania, Orange Romania, RCS&RDS, Vodafone Romania and 2K Telecom.
