March 20 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, the local unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said it plans to invest more than 500 million euro ($534 million) in Romania over the next three years.
"[...] we have the commitment in the coming three years to invest more than half a billion euro in this country, showing actually again the strong commitment of Orange to Romania," Orange Romania's general manager Jean Francois Fallacher told reporters on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Orange said it would invest 15 billion euro into upgrading networks until 2018 under a five-year strategic plan.
Orange Romania's revenues fell by 2.7% to 909 million euro in 2014, mainly hurt by a cut in interconnection tariffs. Excluding the impact of the interconnection tariff cut, 2014 revenues were 4.2% higher on the year.
Orange Romania had 10.531 million clients at the end of 2014, up by about 95,000 on the year.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million is served by a total of five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, formerly known as Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and 2K Telecom.
