SKOPJE (North Macedonia), July 4 (SeeNews) – North Macedonia's trade deficit rose to 51.5 billion denars ($944.2 million/836.6 million euro) in the first five months of 2019, from 46.9 billion denars in the like period of 2018, the statistical office said on Thursday.
Exports increased by 14.7% on the year to 161.3 billion denars in January-May, while imports grew 14.1% to 212.8 billion denars, Makstat said in a statement.
Imports were 75.8% covered by exports in the period under review.
North Macedonia's exports mainly consisted of supported catalysts containing precious metals or precious metal compounds as an active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in motor vehicles, aircraft or ships.
The country predominantly imported platinum alloys and petroleum oils.
North Macedonia's main trading partners in the January-May period were Germany, the UK, Greece, Serbia and Italy.
