PODGORICA (Montenegro), October 20 (SeeNews) – Serbia's Business Registers Agency has said oil group NIS [BEL:NIIS] was the most profitable company in the country last year, with a net profit of 16.1 billion dinars ($159.6 million/135 million euro).
NIS generated 3% of the total net profit in the Serbian economy and ranked second in terms of operating revenue, of 177.9 billion dinars, in 2016, the Serbian Business Registers Agency said in a statement on Thursday.
The company with the highest operating revenue in 2016, of 222.1 billion dinars, was state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which generated 2.4% of the total revenue of the Serbian economy, the agency said.
Seven state-owned companies are on the list of the top 100 most profitable Serbian firms in 2016, having generated 15% of the aggregate net profit of the group, it added.
Among loss-makers in Serbia in 2016, steel mill Zelezara Smederevo reported the highest loss of 16.2 billion dinars. It was followed by state-run toll road operator Putevi Srbije and chemical fertiliser producer HIP Azotara Pancevo, with a loss of 9.9 billion dinars and 6.0 billion dinars, respectively.
