March 31 (SeeNews) - Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and independent media are vilified by Serbia's leading politicians and media close to the government, human rights-focused non-governmental organisation Amnesty International said on Wednesday.
Investigative journalists in Serbia were subjected to smear campaigns by the members of parliament and media close to the government, the organisation said in the 2021/2022 edition of its report The State of the World's Human Rights.
More than 70 organizations turned to the ministry of human rights for protection, with an NGO monitoring the parliament, CRTA, accused of being involved in an alleged attempt to kill Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic, the report read.
Crime and Corruption Reporting Network (KRIK) was accused of having ties to organised crime, which, among other things, prompted five media organizations to leave the government's working group for the security and protection of journalists.
Regarding the right to truth, justice, and reparation, the report asserted that negligible progress has been made in bringing to justice those accused of crimes under international law.
