BELGRADE (Serbia), February 13 (SeeNews) – The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Serbia rose to 3.2 billion euro ($3.6 billion) in 2018 from 2.415 billion euro in the previous year, the central bank NBS said, citing preliminary figures.
Net FDI in the manufacturing industry accounted for 28% of the total and 61% of it came from European Union (EU) member states, the central bank said in its February monthly inflation report, published on Tuesday.
In the fourth quarter of 2018 alone, FDI inflow into Serbia doubled to 1.184 billion euro from 570.9 million euro in the like period of the previous year, the central bank said.
The FDI inflow covered 143.4% of the current account deficit last year, NBS added.
The country's FDI inflow is expected to remain stable in the coming years, at about 5% of the annual gross domestic product (GDP), the central bank said.
