February 17 (SeeNews) - The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Bulgaria decreased by an annual 54.4% last year, to 1.04 billion euro ($1.2 billion), the central bank said on Thursday.
The net FDI inflow in 2021, calculated according to the directional principle, was equal to 1.5% of Bulgaria's gross domestic product projected for the year, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a statement, citing preliminary data.
The largest net FDI inflow into Bulgaria in the review period, of 454.5 million euro, originated in Luxembourg. Germany followed with 284.8 million euro and Austria with 213.4 million euro. The largest net FDI outflows - of 343.6 million euro and 143.7 million euro, respectively - were directed to Russia and Switzerland.
In December alone, Bulgaria recorded a net FDI outflow of 125.2 million euro, which compares to a 114.4 million euro outflow recorded in the same month of 2020.
