NERO, which stands for ‘Netherlands – Romania', aims to make a final choice of turbine before start of the second quarter next year, with one or more manufacturers.
NERO's project includes three locations in the Muntenia and Dobrogea regions in Romania.
Before 2021 NERO Renewables plans to install 362 wind turbines at three different sites in southeastern Romania, with a total capacity of approximately 1,000 megawatts, generating up to 3 terawatt hours per year.
The project is directly connected to the high voltage grid and, as a result of the Integrated Single Market for Electricity, starting in mid-2018. The generated power can be bought by any company in any European country.
Recently NERO offered its project as a joint project to the Dutch government which needs additional renewable capacity. The project accounts for 2.6% of the total Dutch electricity production and equals over 20% of the existing Dutch onshore wind fleet. It also represents about a third of the current gap which withholds the Netherlands from reaching their 2020 RES target.
