March 7 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's trade deficit decreased to a total of 14 billion denars ($242.5 million/227.3 million euro) in January, compared with 16.07 billion denars in the same month the year before, the country's statistical office said on Tuesday.
Exports increased 13.7% on the year to 38.3 billion denars in January, while imports grew 4.9% to 52.3 billion denars, Makstat said in a statement.
North Macedonia's exports mainly consisted of supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in motor vehicles, aircraft or ships, electricity and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel.
The country predominantly imported petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, metals of the platinum group and compounds of precious metals.
North Macedonia's main trading partners in January were Germany, the UK, Greece, Serbia and China.
In 2022, North Macedonia's trade deficit rose to a total of 235.7 billion denars from 167.4 billion denars a year earlier.
