May 18 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's president Stevo Pendarovski said that he has decided to declare a new 14-day state of emergency due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
"After extensive consultations, which I had in the past days and today with experts from various fields and with the advisors in the Cabinet, based primarily on what was said and proposed at the session, I decided to declare a new state of emergency lasting only 14 days instead of the required 30. Given the positive trends for a calm-down of the pandemic situation, I think 14 days is enough," Pendarovski told a press conference streamed on the YouTube channel of the president's cabinet on Friday.
North Macedonia's government last week proposed declaring a new 30-day state of emergency.
The country's second state of emergency, which started on April 16, expired on Saturday.
Pendarovski declared the first state of emergency on March 18.
As of Sunday, the country has confirmed 1,792 coronavirus cases and 101 deaths, health ministry data shows.
