March 30 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's population has decreased to 1.84 million in 2021 from 2 million nearly 20 years ago, according to first results of last year's national census published by the statistical office on Wednesday.
Some 58.44% of the country's citizens declared themselves as Macedonians and 24.30% as Albanians in the 2021 census, the statistical office said in a statement.
There were also 258,932 Macedonian citizens living or residing abroad in 2021.
The total number of households came in at 598,632.
Skopje was the largest city in the country with 526,502 citizens, followed by Kumanovo with 98,104 and Bitola with 85,164.
The census took place from September 5 to September 30.
North Macedonia conducted the previous census in 2002.
