SKOPJE (North Macedonia), March 25 (SeeNews) – North Macedonia's gross electricity production rose by an annual 34% to 683,915 MWh in January, preliminary data from the national statistical office showed on Monday.
Net electricity output increased by the same margin to 642,745 MWh in January, Makstat said in a statement.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross domestic electricity production, generating 408,858 MWh, 53% more than in January 2018.
Hydro power plants followed with 136,394 MWh in the first month of the year, up 20% compared to same month of 2018.
Combined heat and power plants generated 120,570 MWh, up 3.8% on the year.
Electricity generated by wind parks increased by 86% year-on-year to 13,685 MWh, while biogas plants’ output fell 28% to 3,670 MWh. Solar parks produced 737 MWh of electricity, down 39% on the year.
North Macedonia’s electricity imports fell by an annual 13% to 224,575 MWh in January, while electricity exports increased to 15,890 MWh from 4,917 MWh last year.
Distribution losses rose 12.6% on the year to 148,049 MWh in January.
