September 13 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's prime minister Dimitar Kovacevski said on Tuesday that his country will continue importing coal and fuel oil from Greece in the next six months to enable the efficient operation of the power generating facilities at REK Bitola and REK Oslomej.
The uninterrupted supply of fuel oil through Greece will guarantee TPP Negotino's efficient operation, Kovacevski said in a press release after a meeting with Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held in Athens.
The two prime ministers also discussed the project for a gas pipeline through Greece, the Evzoni interconnector to North Macedonia's Negotino, the construction of which should start by the end of the year.
Kovacevski also disclosed that Greek investors will be funding the construction of a large gas-fired power plant in North Macedonia with a capacity of up to 200 MW, which will generate additional electricity for the country.
The project for the construction of a hydro power plant in Cebren in North Macedonia was another topic of the conversation with the Greek prime minister, Kovacevski noted.
Last Friday, North Macedonia's environment ministry said it decided to award a consortium of Greek companies PPC and Archirodon a concession contract for the construction of the 333-megawatt Cebren hydro power plant. Production of electricity is envisaged to begin between 2028 and 2029.
