October 6 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's trade deficit fell to 73.8 billion denars ($1.4 billion/1.2 billion euro) in the first eight months of 2020, from 78.5 billion denars in the same period of 2019, the country's statistical office said on Tuesday.
Exports decreased by an annual 17.6% to 214 billion denars in the January-August period, while imports fell by 14.9% to 287.7 billion denars, Makstat said in a statement.
North Macedonia's exports mainly consisted of supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in motor vehicles, aircraft or ships, as well as parts of the seats and motor vehicles for the transport of 10 or more persons.
The country predominantly imported metals of the platinum group and alloys, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, plated or coated.
North Macedonia's main trading partners in the period under review were Germany, the UK, Serbia, Greece and China.
