PODGORICA (Montenegro), May 25 (SeeNews) – Montenegro’s trade deficit increased by 14.5% on the year to 748.3 million euro ($839 million) in the first four months of 2017, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
The country's exports grew by an annual 28.2% to 112.6 million euro in the January-April period, while imports rose 12.4% to 635.7 million euro, the office said in a statement on its website.
In April alone, Montenegro's trade gap narrowed by 4.7% on the year, reaching 151.3 million euro. On a monthly comparison basis, the deficit narrowed 9.5%. April exports increased by 5.9% on the year, but fell by 2.5% month-on-month, to 30.7 million euro. Imports totalled 182.1 million euro, down 3.1% year-on-year and 8.4% month-on-month.
Montenegro's key export destinations in the first four months of the year were Serbia (19.96 million euro), Bosnia and Herzegovina (15.3 million euro) and Hungary (10.4 million euro), while imports into the country came mainly from Serbia (136.3 million euro), China (58.8 million euro) and Germany (54.8 million euro).
In 2016, Montenegro's foreign trade deficit widened by 13.7% to 1.733 billion euro.
