June 30 (SeeNews) - Montenegro’s trade deficit expanded by 31% on the year to 888.8 million euro ($939.9 million) in the first five months of 2022, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
Exports more than doubled to 336.2 million euro in January-May 2022 from 166.6 million euro in the like period of last year, while imports went up 44.9% to 1.224 billion euro, the statistical office said in a statement.
Montenegro's key export destinations in the first five months of 2022 were Serbia with 55.5 million euro, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 48.5 million euro and Slovenia with 21.8 million euro.
Imports into the country originated mainly from Serbia, which accounted for 210.5 million euro worth of imports, Germany with 96.7 million euro, and Greece with 83.4 million euro.
In 2021, Montenegro's trade deficit expanded by 18.9% to 2.067 billion euro.
