PODGORICA (Montenegro), June 29 (SeeNews) – Montenegro's government said it aims to achieve economic expansion of 5.0% by the end of 2018, after a strong first-quarter growth of 4.5%.
"We have a good growth rate that we need to be proud of. It is not a result of circumstance, but of the commitment of the government, ministries and your teams," prime minister Dusko Markovic is quoted saying during a government session held on Thursday. "Let this be a guiding principle for us and our teams in not only preserving this level of growth but achieving 5% growth by the end of the year."
In 2017, Montenegro's gross domestic product expanded by a real 4.4%.
The World Bank said in March it expected Montenegro's economy to grow by 2.8% in 2018 on the back of public investments and personal consumption. Growth would then slow to 2.5% in 2019 and 2.1% in 2020, the World Bank forecast.
