March 8 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's government plans to pay the European Investment Bank (EIB) a 7.18 million euro ($8.1 million) guarantee on debt owed by insolvent Atlas Banka [MNG:ATBA].
The government will also pay the interest charged after March 7, it said in a statement on Thursday.
In December, Montenegro's central bank placed Atlas Banka and Invest Banka [MNG:IBMN] under its temporary administration due to their poor financial condition, after audit results showed that the capital of the two lenders did not meet the minimum risk requirements.
The government said in January it plans to repay a 2.25 million euro debt of Invest Banka owed to the EIB.
