November 13 (SeeNews) - Montenegro should restore fiscal balance and reduce public debt, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Tuesday.
Having developed a credible fiscal strategy the government should stick to agreed targets, even if economic growth slows, the EBRD said in its Transition Report 2018-2019.
Renewable energy projects should be further developed, the EBRD said, noting that Montenegro has significant potential in this area and further development would help the country’s green economy transition and improve its energy resilience.
Areas of focus in the coming year should include the development of the government’s e-governance programme and strengthening of the framework for competition policy, according to EBRD.
The EBRD expects Montenegro's economy to expand by 4.2% in 2018 after growing by 4.7% last year.
