March 29 (SeeNews) - Montenegro received 24,000 doses of AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine through the global COVAX vaccine sharing mechanism, health minister Jelena Borovinic Bojovic said.
The shipment is the first batch of a total of 84,000 doses to arrive in Montenegro, Borovinic Bojovic said in a press release on Sunday.
Team Europe, including the EU and the European Investment Bank (EIB), has donated over 2.2 billion euro ($2.6 billion) to COVAX, of which 1 billion euro came from the EU budget. This financial support has accelerated the delivery of vaccines to COVAX member states, including Montenegro, the government said.
Elsewhere in Southeast Europe (SEE), North Macedonia also received a shipment of 24,000 doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine through the COVAX on Sunday.
COVAX is a global initiative aimed at providing countries with equitable access to safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines, once they are licensed and approved.
