December 11 (SeeNews) - Montenegro has opened one more chapter in its European Union accession talks, the government said.
At the intergovernmental accession conference in Brussels, Montenegro opened Chapter 27 - Environment & Climate Change, the country's government said in a statement late on Monday.
The opening of the chapter represents a recognition of the intensive work of the Montenegrin institutions on the harmonisation of national legislation with EU regulations and the establishment of the necessary administrative capacities, the government said.
"After the accession to NATO, the opening of Chapter 27 represents one of the biggest achievements of the current administration. A serious work lies ahead of us to fulfil all the requirements under the Chapter, but we have a clear path, with technical and financial support from the EU," Montenegro's environment minister Pavle Radulovic said in a video file posted in the Twitter profile of the Montenegrin government.
Montenegro has opened 32 of a total of 33 chapters of EU law thus far and has temporarily closed three of them. Negotiations have yet not started on Chapter 8 - Competition Policy.
