December 5 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Montenegro Airlines expects to handle 660,000 passengers in 2019, breaking last year's record of 645,000, it said on Thursday.
In the first eleven months of 2019, the company serviced record-high 626,297 passengers, up 2.5% on the year, it said in a statement.
"A very difficult year remains behind us, with turbulent developments in the market, rising costs in the aviation industry in general, and other aggravating circumstances that have led to the bankruptcy of several major European airlines. In addition, for various reasons, the company faced a lack of operational resources, but with optimisation of the entire business and responsible traffic planning, with understanding and support from the owners, we overcame all problems and obstructions and achieved, as it turns out, a record result," executive director Zivko Banjevic said.
Montenegro Airlines will retain its position as a leading airline in the country despite the rising number of airlines opening regular and charter flights on a seasonal or year-round basis to Montenegro, Banjevic added.
Montenegro Airlines narrowed its loss to 1.97 million euro ($2.17 million) last year, Banjevic said in April.
