August 10 (SeeNews) - Montenegro Airlines handled 90% fewer passengers in July compared to the same month last year due to the coronavirus crisis, commercial director Dragan Popovic said on Monday.
"In July 2019, there were 95,000 passengers in regular and charter traffic, while in July this year there were only 9,500 passengers, which is only some 10% of last year's traffic," Popovic said in a video file posted on the website of public broadcaster RTCG.
The coronavirus crisis greatly affected the business of Montenegro Airlines, Popovic said, adding that according to some forecasts, normalisation is expected only at the end of 2022.
The company, which handled record-high 660,000 passengers in 2019, currently operates flights to Ljubljana, Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hannover, London, Copenhagen, Lyon and Paris, Popovic said.
Montenegro closed its borders for foreign nationals and international transport in March to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The government started relaxing the measures in May.
