PODGORICA (Montenegro), January 5 (SeeNews) – National flag carrier Montenegro Airlines carried a total of 580,000 passengers in 2015 or 4% more than a year earlier, local media reported on Tuesday.
The number of flights increased 5% to 6,800 in 2015, news portal Portal Analitika reported, citing the airliner.
An increase in the number of passengers was recorded in all three categories of traffic - regular, code share and charter traffic. In regular traffic, Montenegro Airlines saw an increase of 3.2%, in code share 11%, while charter traffic surged 16%.
The airliner noted that despite difficulties in business with the Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade, Montenegro Airlines transported a total of 4,700 passengers to the Serbian capital or 2% more than in 2014.
The number of passengers in scheduled traffic to Ljubljana increased by 53% to 5,600, while passengers to Dusseldorf rose by 45% to 2,000 and to Copenhagen by 44% to 2,400.
Growth was also seen on flights to London, by 23%, Frankfurt by 11%, Paris 10% and Zurich by 4%.
A negative trend was recorded on the Russian market - a fall of 18% - due to the complex economic situation in the country or the devaluation of the national currency, the airliner said.
Montenegro Airlines carried around 35% of all passengers that travel to and from Montenegro, a country with population of some 630,000.
In 2014, Montenegro Airlines' passenger numbers fell 5% to 557,000 due to fewer flights and aircraft.
