PODGORICA (Montenegro), September 2 (SeeNews) – The passenger numbers of national flag carrier Montenegro Airlines rose by 4% to 410,000 in the first eight months of 2015, local media reported on Wednesday.
In August alone, passenger numbers rose 3% on the year to 93,500, making August the most successful month in the past four years, the commercial director of Montenegro airlines, Predrag Markovic, told broadcaster RTCG.
The biggest increase in the number of passengers carried on regular flights in the first eight months of the year was recorded on routes to Belgrade and Paris by 4,500 passengers each, followed by Ljubljana with an increase of 2,500 passengers, London with 2,250, Copenhagen with 2,000 and Frankfurt with an increase of 1,500 passengers.
However, Montenegro airlines saw a decline of passengers from the Russian market, with their share in the total passenger numbers reduced to 20% due to the devaluation of the rouble.
The company achieved growth in all three traffic categories through August: regular traffic increased by 2%, code share traffic by 10% and charter flights surged 25%, Markovic said.
In 2014, Montenegro Airlines experienced a 5% drop in passenger number to 557,000 due to fewer flights and aircraft. The company then operated six aircraft, while the number of flights was down by 20%.
