August 31 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose 14.5% on the year in the first six months of 2023, reaching 153,100, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
As much as 37.7% of 81,100 foreign tourists who visited the country during the first half of 2023 arrived from Ukraine,18.7% came from Romania, 8.3% from the U.S., while Russian tourists accounted for 3.1%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 531,000 overnights in Moldova during January-June, up 5.2% on the year. Out of these, foreign visitors booked 184,200 overnights, down by an annual 6.8%.
During the first six months of 2023, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the country's accommodation facilities was 5.8 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.3 days on average.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova grew by an annual 87.4% in 2022, reaching 333,900.
