November 18 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova tripled in the first nine months of 2021, reaching 126,075, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
As much as 28.8% of 44,468 foreign tourists who visited the country during the first nine months arrived from Romania,12.4% came from Russia, 11.5% came from Ukraine, while U.S. tourists accounted for 7.2%., the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 543,268 overnights in Moldova during January-September, double compared to the same period of 2020. Foreign tourists booked 95,876 overnights, up 69.6% on the year.
During the first nine months, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 5.3 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.2 days on average.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova fell by 75.9% on the year in 2020, reaching 90,338.
