August 31 (SeeNews) - The average gross monthly salary in Moldova rose by a real 1.3% on the year to 12,176 lei ($681.4/630.6 euro) in the second quarter of 2023, the country's statistical office said.
In nominal terms, the average gross wage was 17.3% higher year-on-year during April-June, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement on Wednesday.
The average gross salary in the public sector was 10,208 lei in the second quarter, up 17.2% on the year in nominal terms. In the private sector, the gross wage amounted to 12,852.6 lei, up by an annual 17.3%.
The highest average gross wage during the second quarter of 2023 was registered in the sector of information and communications technology (ICT), reaching 30,521.3 lei after an annual jump of 15.1% in nominal terms. At the opposite end stood the accommodation and food services sector, with an average gross monthly wage of 7,445.8 lei, up by 11.8% on the year.
The average number of employees in the economy remained virtually unchanged on a yearly basis in the second quarter. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the average number of employees inched up by 0.6% in April-June.
