June 2 (SeeNews) - The average gross salary in Moldova fell by a real 3.9% on the year to 11,486 lei ($646/602 euro) per month in the first quarter of 2023, the country's statistical office said.
In nominal terms, the average gross wage was 20% higher year-on-year during the first three months of 2023, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement on Wednesday.
The average gross salary in the public sector was 9,783.2 lei in the first quarter, up 19% on the year in nominal terms. In the private sector, the gross wage was 12,086.7 lei in January-March, up by an annual 20%.
The highest average gross salary during the first quarter of 2023 was registered in information and communications technology (ICT), reaching 29,841.8 lei after an annual jump of 21.9% in nominal terms. At the opposite end stood the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, with an average gross monthly wage of 7,046.4 lei, up by 12.6% on the year.
The average number of employees remained virtually unchanged on a yearly basis.
