The average gross salary in Moldova fell by a real 10.3% year-on-year in 2022, to 10,529.1 lei ($558/525 euro) per month, the country's statistical office said.
In nominal terms, the average gross wage rose 15.5% last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement on Thursday.
In the fourth quarter alone, the average monthly gross salary amounted to 11,539.1 lei, up by a nominal 18.1% compared to 2021, but down 10.6% in real terms.
The average gross salary in the public sector was 9,894.8 lei in the fourth quarter of 2022, jumping by 20.1% on the year in nominal terms. In the private sector, the gross wage was 12,129 lei in the fourth quarter, up by a nominal 17.5%.
The highest average gross salary was registered in information and communications technology (ICT) in 2022, 28,730.4 lei, which was 28.6% higher in nominal terms compared to 2021. At the opposite end stood the accommodation and food services sector, with a gross wage of 7,370.7 lei, up by 28.8% on the year.
The average number of employees inched down by an annual 0.4% in the fourth quarter of 2022.
