September 1 (SeeNews) - Moldova's unemployment rate rose to 3.8% in the second quarter of 2023 from 2.4% in the like period a year earlier, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Unemployed in the country of 2.5 million people numbered 35,600 at the end of June, as compared to 21,600 a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, said in a statement.
The jobless rate was 11.3% among people aged between 15 and 24, up from 7% a year earlier, and 3.8% among people aged between 20 and 64, up from 2.4% in the April-June period of 2022.
People in active age increased by an annual 3.9% to 935,100 in the second quarter. The number of employed grew by 2.4% on the year to 899,600, as 50.3% of them were women.
The unemployment rate among men in Moldova in the review period was 4.3% versus 3.3% among women.
The statistics bureau also said the jobless rate reached 5% in urban areas, compared to 2.8% in rural areas.
During the first quarter of 2023, Moldova's unemployment rate stood at 5.5%.
In 2022, Moldova’s unemployment rate inched down to 3.1% from 3.2% a year earlier.
