May 17 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 11.4% on the year in the first three months of the year, reaching 55,300 the country's statistical office said on Friday.
As much as 27.8% of 31,000 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-March, arrived from Romania, 12.5% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 7.9%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 204,000 overnights in Moldova during the first three months, up 4.2% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 67,907 overnights, a rise of 24.5% on the year.
During January-March, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 6.6 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.2 days on average.
In 2018, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 8.1% on the year to 364,608.
