May 18 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 10.9% on the year in the first quarter of the year, reaching 49,969, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
As much as 28.3% of 27,128 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-March, arrived from Romania, 14.7% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 8.6%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 195,716 million overnights in Moldova during the first quarter, up 8.3% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 54,528 overnights, a rise of 21% on the year.
During January-March, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 7.3 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3 days on average.
In 2017, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 10.1% on the year to 337,207.
